2017 Emerson Award

cmetzeCarrie Metze has been teaching at Triad High School for 31 years.  As a Business Teacher, she has taught Keyboarding, Consumer Education, Software Apps, and more recently Triad News Today (TNT).  As an instructor, Carrie’s focus is about her students.  In the development of all her classes, she strives to create activities where students are able to apply the skills acquired to the outside business world.  Whether it be to increase a student's’ typing speed or resume, Carrie makes sure that students understand the value to what they are learning by setting goals for improvement.  Over the last 8 years, the schools' video broadcasting class, TNT, has been under the direction of Mrs. Metze.  From the onset, she gathered resources and developed lessons where her students are able to apply their journalistic skills in storyboarding, interviewing, filming, and editing a quality production that the TNT program has been valued for.  Besides providing these TNT episodes, the video editing class serves the community by creating infomercials for those outside of THS.  The latest infomercial was on school bus safety and will be shown in public schools around the area.  Additionally, Carrie has been our high school spring musical director, department chair, and member of numerous committees.  Her latest endeavor has been to host a THS Dancing with the Stars, where students and faculty come together to demonstrate their skill and creativity in dancing for a packed house.  Money raised from this event is given to Got Your Six Support Dogs, which provides service dogs for veterans suffering from PTSD. Carrie Metze cares about her community, colleagues, and her students.  As overheard after school from a student, Mrs. Metze is my “school mom.”  She is very deserving to receive the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award.
