The Triad Middle School Sixth Grade Band Program is a beginner level band which includes the basic elements of music playing skills, and introduction to band literature. Most beginning band students are learning to play their first musical instrument and this provides an opportunity for each sixth grade band student to make an attempt at instrumental music education.
This band offers students a hands-on experience that teaches the basic performance skills needed to play in school instrumental ensembles. Participation in the band program develops musicianship, fosters creative thinking, and provides students with a means of self-expression. Students receive instruction once a week in small groups for 35 minutes and they also participate in a daily band rehearsal.

The Seventh/Eighth Grand Band introduces students to standard band literature. Performance in band focuses on the development of the basic techniques needed for performance on wind and percussion instruments. Skills learned in Seventh/Eighth Band provide the foundation for all other musical ensembles. Band meets each day from 7:00 – 7:40 a.m. The band performs in fall, winter and spring concerts. In addition, band students will perform as an ensemble in the Illinois Grade School Music Association Organization Contest(s) in the spring. Students will also have the opportunity to audition for honor band festivals and perform at solo and ensemble contest(s). Band students are also scheduled for a sectional class that meets once per week for 40 minutes. This band also performs with the Triad High School Marching Band in the fall and the Triad High School Concert Band in the spring.

IMSA FUSION is an after-school enrichment program for Triad Middle School students who are talented, interested and motivated in mathematics and science. IMSA FUSION places a special emphasis on students who are historically underrepresented in those areas.
Students attend weekly IMSA FUSION sessions at TMS. Each IMSA group is led by two teachers with a background and knowledge of mathematics and/or science. The support of the principal or other school administrator is essential to a well functioning team.
In brief, the program goals are: maintain or increase students’ interest, involvement and literacy in science and mathematics; enhance the knowledge and skills of teachers in science, mathematics, and technology; stimulate excellence in schools’ science and mathematics programs; and help increase access to programming for students who are historically under-resourced in science, mathematics and technology and for all areas of the state.
Currently, Triad Middle School has two IMSA groups: a 6th grade group, a 7th/8th grade group. Sixty students are currently involved in the IMSA program at TMS. In addition to the after school sessions, students also may participate in related field trips and other enrichment activities.
By design, the IMSA FUSION curriculum is inquiry based, problem centered and integrative. The learning experiences focus on helping students “learn how to learn” and emphasize logic, mathematical thinking and experimental scientific thinking. Topics relate to the students’ lives, thereby arousing their curiosity and increasing their motivation to learn in mathematics and science. Teachers from each participating school are supported with on-going professional development for the delivery of the curriculum and use of appropriate pedagogy.

Model UN is a club that is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at TMS. You will have a lot of fun, but you will also work very hard to prepare for our two-day conference in February. Joining Model UN is a huge commitment. Please make sure you are willing to do the work and stick it out to the end. I promise you will have fun, but the hard work comes first! Student will need to get teacher recommendations to join our club. Students with multiple missing or late assignments will not be considered for Model UN. There are deadlines that must be met and no exceptions can be made. These deadlines are set by the chairmen of the conference that we attend as they will be coordinating approximately 15 school districts and need as much time as possible to prepare for the conference.
If you have any questions about Model UN, please see Mrs. DeNap in room 811 between 7:25 and 7:40. You are also welcome to email me at dawn.denap@tcusd2.org .

Students for Humanity at Triad Middle School is an organization that promotes positive thinking, cooperation and good citizenship. We work together to strengthen our community and help those in need. Our goal is to build strong, confident young people who are respectful of others, care about their environment and are willing to commit the time and energy needed to be a contributing part of our community.
Students for Humanity is a student led organization, meaning the student members, as a group, will decide where our help is most needed. We work the concession stand for sporting events here at Triad Middle School to raise money for our community service.
Community service activities in the past:
Created and decorated wreaths for senior citizens in our community.
Created holiday cards for military personnel and senior citizens in our community.
Collection drive for Highland Animal Shelter (No kill shelter) and Partners for Pets.
Sold and created Easter grams school wide to raise money for projects.
Made No-Tie blankets for Leaps of Love’s annual weekend retreat for siblings of family members affected by childhood cancer.
Made and donated No-Tie blankets to Leaps of Love, Cardinal Glennon Hospital and other not for profit organizations.
We are always looking for additional ways to give to our community. If you have suggestions, please contact Sue Hewitt or a student member.
Students for Humanity will meet every other week after school from 2:20 to 3:30. Unfortunately, there is no 3:30 TMS bus. Any student participant will need to rely on parent/guardian transportation.
Listen for an announcement regarding our first meeting for the 17/18 school year at TMS.
As with any school organization, all students who wish to participate will have passing grades in all classes.
