Dear Parent/Guardian:
We would like to encourage your child(ren) to become involved in the TMS SOAR Program. The purpose of SOAR (Sixth Only After-School Recreation) is to provide students with the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational activities after the regular school day ends as an extension of the school’s physical education program.
Participation in SOAR will not only give your child(ren) the chance to be active, it will also give them ample opportunities to make new friends and demonstrate such qualities as good sportsmanship, cooperation, and leadership in a supervised and structured environment.
The TMS SOAR Program will run after school from 1:55-3:30pm. Students will be eligible to ride the 4:15 activity bus to predetermined local stops. The cost for the session is $50 per child. The Fall session will run on these afternoon days beginning October 3 and ending on November 2. The dates of the session are October 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 23, 24, 31, and November 2. Days are Tuesdays and Thursdays (except Monday, October 23).
Students wishing to participate in SOAR will be required to attend a meeting prior to the session to learn about the requirements of the program. Please remind your child(ren) to pay attention to announcements made in the morning and posted during lunch about the SOAR program. Information about SOAR will also be posted on the school’s website.
Students will be required to sign in (attendance check) every day they attend a SOAR class. They will not be required to change clothes, but we do ask that all participants wear court shoes or sneakers. Appropriate behavior will be expected of all SOAR participants. Students may be removed from the program if poor behavior becomes a recurring problem.
The TMS physical education staff hopes that you will encourage your child(ren) to participate in the SOAR Program, as we feel it provides the perfect opportunity for our students to make new friends and increase their physical fitness levels.
If you have any questions about the TMS SOAR Program, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Vickrey. corey.vickrey@tcusd2.org or 618-667-5406.
