TMS Families,
I hope that you are staying safe and warm during this cold January weekend. As a reminder there is no school tomorrow, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This is the perfect time to reflect on the life and legacy of one of our nation’s most influential and inspirational leaders. Dr. King famously said, “the time is always right to do what is right,” which is a great phrase for all of our TMS Crusaders to remember. Speaking of doing the right thing, we celebrated several of our outstanding Crusaders last week with our Zero Hero Glow Party Celebration. Thank you to our assistant principals and staff members for making this such a fun reward for our students. You can see pictures from the event in this month’s TMS photos.
When we return to school this week, our Winter MAP testing will resume. MAP testing is one of the ways we evaluate the effectiveness of our teaching and learning opportunities and gather feedback to inform our instructional efforts. Please help us obtain reliable and meaningful data by encouraging your child to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and be at school on time each day this week.
Finally, please review our E-Learning Day / Inclement Weather Plan to be advised of the Triad District plan should winter weather affect our ability to attend school in person this year. The plan has been posted on the district and school websites. At TMS, the school day would begin at 7:20 for 7th/8th Grade Early Bird Band students and 8:00AM for everyone else. Teachers will be taking attendance each period, but students do not need to check in the period that they have lunch/study hall.
Athletics/Extracurricular: Our TMS dance team continued their successful season over the weekend at the competition in Marion. Our girls first in jazz and second in open pom, qualifying both routines for state. Congrats!
We’re looking forward to hosting the IESA 7th Grade Boys Basketball Regional here at TMS beginning next weekend. As the #5 seed, the host Crusaders are scheduled to play the #4 seed, East St. Louis Clark, at 9AM on Saturday, January 20th. The regional semifinals will take place on Monday, January 22nd, with the championship scheduled for Wednesday, January 24th, with all regional games taking place here at TMS. Please see the schedule of dates below for our January basketball, bowling, scholar bowl, volleyball, and wrestling contests. Go Crusaders!

Erin’s Law: All Illinois schools are required by law to implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program. Our Erin’s Law lessons and presentations will take place between February 6th-8th. Here is the Erin’s Law letter for you to review. Please follow the instructions if you wish to excuse your child from these lessons by Feb. 5th.
Financial Assistance: From time to time, there are students who do not sign up to participate in a sport, club, field trip, or optional test because of financial concerns for one reason or another. We want to remind all TMS families that our goal is to provide all students with access to the resources necessary to chase their dreams and participate in activities inside and outside of the classroom. If you need financial assistance in order to take advantage of all that Triad has to offer, please contact me. We would love to provide you with a fee waiver or scholarship if money is a barrier at this time.
