Monday, November 25, 2024 (Thanksgiving Update)
As we take a moment to reflect on our experiences at Triad Middle School, I want to express my gratitude. We are thankful for our supportive parents, engaged students, dedicated staff, and wonderful school community. We appreciate the rigorous academics and expectations that challenge our learners, as well as the safe learning environment we provide. It's truly a privilege to work with such a strong school family.
This week serves as a reminder of all the great things we experience together. Please note that it is a very short week, with no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.
In our update this week, we have included events for the week of December 1st to assist with planning as we prepare for the final three weeks of instruction leading up to the conclusion of Semester 1.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our students and school community.
Social Media And Snapchat: (follow-up from 11/22)
Additional resources for parents/guardians to monitor:
Please note that the group chats are believed to be created by students and not directly tied to any club/group at TMS or directly to the local CrossFit557. It is unfortunate that groups with this type of content can be created and named under the false premises of representing schools, businesses, or individuals. Please note this is why we continue to take social media and harmful content so seriously here at TMS when it disrupts the learning process.
Parents, one additional talking point with your child regarding social media. Many pre-teens and teens will not download the apps (Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, etc), instead they will bypass the app and use the browser on their phone or device to log-in. This is a much more discrete way and at times can go unnoticed, because many adults will look for a specific app or have app permissions set as the parental controls.
THANK YOU - to the students who - See something, hear something, say something!!! Many of our students should be commended for their actions when seeing something inappropriate and reporting it to an adult so it can be addressed in a timely manner.
Parent Update - November 22, 2024 - I am reaching out to seek your assistance in monitoring your child's phone and social media accounts. Recently, we have encountered some concerning issues related to Snapchat groups where students may be added without their knowledge. These groups have been reported to contain graphic images, inappropriate and sexual language, and instances of students sharing pictures of others without permission. Some chat groups also use inappropriate names and staff or student pictures as profile images.
While most of these chats are created outside of school hours, they can lead to significant disruptions when brought into the school environment. Many students believe that pictures and messages disappear, but in reality, anyone can screenshot and share content from large group chats.
We truly need your help to minimize these disruptions. If you are reviewing your child's phone regularly, please take a moment to check for the following student-created chat groups: The TMS School, The Brain Rot, and CrossFit557. These groups have been reported as having inappropriate content and have been turned over to law enforcement.
As a school community, we must prioritize the safety and well-being of our students. We appreciate the proactive individuals who report these harmful comments. It's crucial for page owners to eliminate such content. Students are encouraged to block and report any harmful posts they encounter.
Our school maintains a ZERO tolerance policy toward bullying and harassment, and appropriate consequences will be assigned to those who violate this standard. Together, we can maintain a supportive environment for all students.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your partnership in keeping our school community safe.
